New This Year: December 6th Kickoff Night
Mark your calendars for the December 6th, 2024, Kickoff Night from 4 to 7 pm, an evening filled with holiday cheer and the official unveiling of this year’s snowman displays. Hosted at the Calhoun Recreation Department, this exciting event offers the first chance to admire the dazzling snowmen while enjoying a night packed with local fun and family-friendly activities.
Families can hop aboard free barrel train rides along the Snowman Path, courtesy of the Gordon County Antique Engine and Tractor Club. Kids will find plenty to do at Santa’s Workshop, where they can make holiday crafts or get a colorful face painting.
A Snowman coloring contest invites kids in 5th grade and under to let their creativity shine by bringing a snowman to life using crayons, markers, or colored pencils. Judged on creativity, color use, and presentation, it’s a fun way for young artists to participate in the holiday magic, with a chance to win a special Snowman Prize Package. Coloring sheets can be picked up at the event or downloaded online, with completed entries due by December 13th.
Food trucks, including Jabo’s Weeny Wagon, will offer delicious bites, while visitors can purchase event t-shirts, available in kids’ and adult long-sleeve sizes, for $25. Towering over the evening’s excitement is a spectacular 20-foot inflatable snowman, creating a picture-perfect backdrop for holiday photos.
Visit & Vote for Your Favorite Snowman
Beyond the joy of seeing all the snowmen displayed and marveling at the creativity of local businesses, you can directly participate in this community event by voting for your favorite! The snowmen are proudly displayed at the Calhoun Recreation Department, along the paved path connecting the Black & Yellow playground to the large parking lot.
While enjoying the kickoff event on December 6th, you can cast your vote in person for just $1 per vote. Prizes will be awarded for both the People’s Choice Award and the Judges’ Favorite, celebrating the artistry and creativity of the displays. Votes can also be submitted at the Gordon Chamber, the Calhoun Recreation Department and at participating builders’ locations during their regular business hours or online via PayPal. If you can’t make the kickoff, the snowmen will remain on display through December 20th, giving you plenty of time to stroll through, choose your favorite, and cast your vote.
