Having a ‘ruff’ time finding spots to take your dog in Georgia? Look no further than Gordon County! From the new dog park in Calhoun to The Rock Garden and Resaca’s Battlefield Trail, there are plenty of places to take your furry friends. 1. The City Bark Dog Park

Newly constructed, The City Bark is every dog’s dream! Your furry friends will have loads of fun playing in the grassy and mulched areas with multiple tunnels, ramps and platforms. The park includes two separate fenced-in areas for big dogs and little dogs. There are also several benches for dog owners and water fountains for man and his best friend.

2. The Rock Garden

One of Calhoun’s hidden treasures, The Rock Garden is a unique adventure for you and your dog to experience together! Walk through more than 50 miniature castles, churches and other structures made from pebbles, shells, broken glass and more. The whimsical environment with dog-sized sculptures is sure to be a hit with your furry friends!

3. New Echota State Historic Site Trail

Another exciting outing, New Echota State Historic State allows dogs as long as they are on a leash. New Echota is one of the most significant Cherokee Indian sites in the nation and is a real treat to visit. Your dogs will love escaping into the great outdoors with beautiful mountainous and wooded scenery. They might even be able to sense the deep history of the land! Note: there is a small fee to enter.

4. Resaca Battlefield Historic Site Trail

For those up for a longer outing, Resaca Battlefield Trail will turn your dog into your best friend! Explore over five miles of trails full of natural beauty through open valleys, forest, wetlands and over Camp Creek. The trails are well-marked and range from easy to moderate. There are even some spots where dogs are allowed to be off-leash. The main parking area has a large pavilion with picnic tables and restrooms. The trail is open year-round Friday-Sunday from dawn to dusk.

5. Salacoa Creek Park

During the summer, what dog doesn’t want to go to the beach? Salacoa Creek Park is a 364-acre recreational park with a beach and swimming area. It’s the perfect spot to bring your dog to cool off. There’s also a scenic 1.5-mile nature trail that overlooks the lake. Dogs have to be kept on a leash, but that won’t stop them from having a blast here!

6. Harold “Ooky” Faith Memorial Park

If you’re short on time, this cute little walking loop is sure to get your dog’s tail wagging. The ten acre park has a 1.5-mile lighted asphalt trail around a pond. It’s an easy way to get some exercise, without having to go deep into the woods. Your dog is sure to love seeing all the ducks, birds and fish!
